LEGIO SOUNDS · 2023-05-06

Field Kit

Recorders, Microphones and other gear

My field kit has grown slowly through use. I record with a small collection of Zoom recorders - including the F3, F6, H6, H4n Pro and H1n - choosing whichever best suits the walk, journey or overnight deployment. I also use Clippy EM272s, contact microphones and a hydrophone when I want to listen beneath the obvious surface of a place. At the heart of the kit are my Legio Micro Microphones: a compact stereo pair I’ve been developing for field recording. They are small enough to carry almost anywhere and easy to place quietly among trees, rocks or grasses. I can set them up, step away and leave the place to carry on without me standing over it. I’m always experimenting with different placements, power supplies and ways of protecting the equipment from weather. The aim is not to carry the most gear, but to have a simple and dependable kit that lets me listen closely, and record for long enough that a place begins to reveal itself.
Recorded and written by Mark, from Legio Sounds Legio Sounds
